Meditation for Peace and Healing at Quezon City on December 26, 2016

Source: http://health.usnews.com

You probably have had too much noise and chaos already (this holiday season and during much of this year). Maybe you are longing for silence, peace, and a space to just be.

Some of us are fighting for justice and peace by making our voices heard. But another way is to nurture peace in our hearts and radiate it outwards. We all want the same thing — whether it’s an end to the killings and the war in Syria, justice for the oppressed, peace in our own families, or happiness in our hearts.

Let us sit together for peace and healing. Be with us in a simple gathering of souls who are trying to celebrate a different kind of Christmas.

Rak of Aegis Source: www.onemusic.ph

The Rak is back! This is one of my favourite shows of all time! That’s why I’m watching it again =)

Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA)
presents

Rak Of Aegis
A musical featuring the songs of Aegis

A rock comedy musical that makes its 5th comeback using the songs of Aegis will tackle Filipino resilience, or how the country faces and resolves compromising situations, whether this be a natural disaster or a broken heart. Set in a subdivision that has been flooded for two months, “Rak of Aegis” will revolve around the love interests of the main characters, whose names are derived from those of Aegis band members as a tribute to the Filipino novelty rock group that made waves in the 90’s.

PETA’s widely popular production has garnered over 20 awards and citations since its opening on 2014, including Outstanding Original Musical, Outstanding Musical Direction, Outstanding Stage Direction Outstanding Original Libretto to name a few. Aside its numerous awards and endless stream of followers, Rak has produced a record-breaking 206 shows; indeed a feat for Philippine theatre.

Review of “Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady” The Musical

This league of superheroes is ready to watch the show…

The stage is set…

Go!
SAM_6384-1

Rating: 3.5/5

“Zsazsa Zaturnnah Ze Muzical” is my favorite show ever (I watched it about 5 times already). Tita Myra, my aunt from New Jersey blurted out after watching Zsazsa, “This is better than Broadway!”… I smiled because I had her same sentiments. Hence, I was ecstatic upon learning that the team that brought about Zsazsa came up with a new play. “Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady” is the latest project of the admirable team comprised of writer Carlo Vergara, Director Chris Martinez and Musical Director Vincent de Jesus.

Before the play started, a few words from Producer Perterean Brinas of Dalanghita Productions…
SAM_6379

The actors were all superb… in acting, and most especially singing. Filipinos are just so darn talented! Lead role, Bituin Escalante (Mely) sang effortless (geez, I wish I had even a tiny portion of her talent). My fave of the night is Kim Molina (Viva), who portrayed Bituin’s sister… I just sooo love her acting! I adore Gianina Ocampo’s (Nena Babushka) heartfelt singing as well (I can relate… sniff, sniff). Too bad I was unable to watch Menchu Lauchengco’s rendition of Madre de Dios but her alternate Astarte Abraham did a splendid job.

Bituin Escalante, you deserve the applause…
SAM_6382

One thing I didn’t like about the play though is that it was too long. The play started at 8:00 PM and it lasted for more than 3 hours! My friends and I didn’t care to have photo-ops taken with the stars because we were all famished. We already got to have our dinner nearing 12 midnight already. I hope the production would consider trimming down the play, and delete the scenes and songs that aren’t too important or aren’t contributory to the conflict.

Dinner at Jay-J’s after the show…
SAM_6394
We were so famished that there were no leftovers, not even a single grain of rice… haha =)

All in all, I still love Zsazsa Zaturnnah more, but still kudos to the team of Vergara, Martinez and de Jesus for coming up with another creative, entertaining and funny superhero musical =)

P.S. You can buy the comic book of “Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady” at the theater booth for P175. I bought a copy and I can’t wait to read it. Let’s see how the story and story lines compare to the musical… =)

“Being a maid is tough enough, but when Mely lands a job under a group of superheroes, she steps up to the unique challenge for the sake of her family. Based on Carlo Vergara’s one-act play and graphic novel of the same title, Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady the Musical revolves around Mely and Viva’s sibling relationship, made complicated by an unsettling past and a budding romance, all in the context of an ongoing war between the superhero and supervillain teams. The musical takes us through the journey of the characters as each tries to find his/her place in the world.” – TicketWorld.com.ph
